Scottish Grand Prix SeriesSatuday start slightly overcast with a gentle SE breeze. The fleet launched around 12:00 for a long sail to the race area. Neil Wilson joined the fleet since Peter Malcolm had a spare boat and there were no other Contenders to sail against. The wind died just as the competitors reached the committee boat and after waiting 2 hours, was sent ashore.
Sunday did not look promising to begin with, but by 9:30 there was enough breeze to sail out to the course. The start had been brought forward and the plan was for four races.
Race 1: Wind SE, about F2-3. Shortly after start wind swung right to almost due west. Stuart Roy established a lead by then end of the first lap and held on to win the race with Neil Wilson second close behind.
Race 2: With the course reset, just before start the wind shifted right resulting in a significant committee boat biased line. Thomas Hepburn grabbed the lead and was able to win the race, with Neil Wilson in second.
Race 3: Graeme Greer took an early lead and lead to the finish. Neil Wilson was also clear and finished second. After rounding the leward mark for the last time the following five boats battled to the right in heavy traffic with a Laser EPS causing some problems. Having followed these boats around the leward mark David Woakes headed out to the left and jumped to third place crossing the others on port as he went over the finish line.
Race 4: Neil Wilson established a lead and held on to win the race and his first win of the day. Stuart Roy followed him home as the wind gradually faded and it was a long sail home.
Neil Wilson won his first Laser GP for some years, showing that winning races doesn't matter as much as consistency and with Stuart Roy second demonstrating the same thing having come tantalisingly close to winning his first GP.
