Radial Rig Lasers at Dalgety Bay SC 2004

Many thanks to everyone at Dalgety Bay sailing club for, as always, managing a very slick event with well organised racing and great facilities on shore. The Radial fleet in Scotland continues to go from strength to strength, turning out the largest fleet yet for a Scottish GP event with Helensburgh and Dalgety Bay clubs accounting for over half the participants.

Light winds and a strong tide allowed for only one race on the Saturday. Robin Paris, Ian Docwra and Lindsay Doig taking the first 3 places, with Robin retaining his lead from the start.

Sunday brought a slight improvement in the wind speed, picking up to an occasional F3 by the end of the day, its constant shifts giving the Race Officer something of a challenge setting courses. Shifty winds proved to be no problem however for Robin Paris who finished with a very convincing string of first places to his name to win the event.

The large fleet produced a couple of very competitive start lines, particularly in races 3 and 4, however the tide and some overzealous sheeting resulted in two general recalls (greeted with general relief by those caught at the port end) and the first black flag start of the season (not so welcome for those who were caught OCS!).

Final results were a very well deserved 1st to Robin Paris, 2nd for Lindsay Doig and 3rd for Iain Docwra in his first Scottish GP event. A special mention goes to Nuala Black sailing her first event in a 4.7 in the middle of the radial fleet.
