Report by Peter Malcolm

Conditions looked perfect on Saturday morning, with bright sunshine and a moderate offshore wind, however by the time racing started, bands of cloud had appeared resulting in some significant changes in wind speed and direction throughout the afternoon. A squall before the start caused many capsizes, but then the first race was sailed in a light breeze, and the usual suspects of Thomas Hepburn, Steven Forteith and Pete Malcolm took the first 3 places. The second race started in a squall, but after the first beat the light breeze returned. After some significant place changing as the wind shifted, Petee Malcolm led home from Stuart Roy and Thomas Hepburn. For race 3, it was Colin Morrison and James McTurk who got off the start best, with James just pipping Colin to win, and Pete just pipping Gordon Bissett for third.

On Sunday again the skies were bright blue, and this time it stayed all day, with a light easterly breeze. Though there were still some shifts, it was a lot steadier than the day before. Thomas Hepburn and Robin Paris led the way round race 4, but both had been OCS, handing victory to Stuart Roy, followed by Gordon Bissett and Peter Taylor. In race 5 Robin Paris led from start to finish, while Thomas Hepburn battled with Pete Malcolm for a while before pulling away to take a clear second. In the final race Francis Neill and James McTurk led at the first mark, but the superior boat speed of Thomas Hepburn and Steven Forteith took them through to first and second, with Francis holding on to third. In the end it was consistency that gave Pete Malcolm the overall victory, with Thomas Hepburn second, despite counting a thirteenth place, and Steven Forteith third. Thomas's second is enough to give him the overall lead in the travellers (on tie break) and Pete must win the final event if he is to retain the series trophy.

Thanks to Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club for a good event - 6 races, plenty of sun, and an excellent barbequeue - but no dolphins this year.
